Hey ladies! Lipedema Awareness Month is still going, and I’m back to introduce you to my surgeon, Dr. Michael Schwartz. ⁣
I had a total of 4 surgeries with him during 2023-2024. I had surgery on my legs, arms, back/flanks, and skin excision on my legs at his practice in Pasadena, CA.⁣
I needed these surgeries after losing 170 lbs because my lipedema was becoming more painful, more obvious, and starting to slow my mobility. ⁣
I credit him for giving me an amazing balance of form and function. He believes that lipedema surgery should improve a woman's mobility and appearance, and I am living proof that his methods are successful! I am hiking mountains in Colorado and wearing shorts without a second thought, Thanks to Dr. Schwartz! 💜⁣

If you're looking for a simple way to add flavor, healthy fats, and fresh herbs to your meals this summer, pesto is one of my favorite kitchen staples!⁣
⁣
Unlike many store-bought sauces and dressings that can contain added sugars and inflammatory oils, homemade pesto is made with real, whole-food ingredients that help create satisfying meals without any dodgy ingredients. ⁣
⁣
For women with lipedema, focusing on meals that support stable blood sugar and insulin levels can be an important piece of the puzzle. The combination of olive oil, pine nuts, parmesan, and fresh basil provides healthy fats and flavor that can help make nutrient-dense meals more satisfying.⁣
⁣
One batch can transform multiple meals throughout the week!⁣
⁣
✨ 5 Ways to Use Summer Pesto:⁣
1️⃣ Toss with grilled chicken, shrimp, or salmon.⁣
2️⃣ Drizzle over roasted or grilled vegetables.⁣
3️⃣ Use as a dressing for a hearty salad.⁣
4️⃣ Spread on lettuce wraps or sandwiches instead of mayo.⁣
5️⃣ Spoon over zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash, or your favorite protein and veggie bowl.⁣

Ingredients - ⁣
1/2 lemon, Juiced and Zested ⁣
2 cup basil, packed ⁣
1/4 cup pine nuts 1 clove garlic, Chopped ⁣
2 Tbs parmesan cheese, grated ⁣
3 Tbs olive oil ⁣
salt, to taste ⁣
black pepper, to taste ⁣
⁣
1. Zest and juice lemon. ⁣
2. In a food processor, combine basil, pine nuts, garlic, lemon zest and juice, and parmesan cheese. Pulse to roughly combine. ⁣
3. With motor running, slowly pour in 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Process until mixture is smooth, about 10-15 seconds. You will likely need to stop and wipe the edges of the blender or food processor and then resume pureeing. ⁣
4. Add more oil as desired to thin. Season with salt and pepper.⁣
⁣
Simple. Fresh. Delicious. And perfect for summer. ☀⁣

Lipedema now has its OWN ICD code, and here's why that's a game-changer.

An ICD code means lipedema is OFFICIALLY recognized in the medical coding system.

That means:

✅ Doctors can formally document & diagnose it

✅ Insurance claims can be submitted with a specific code

✅ Researchers can track it & study it on a large scale

✅ It's one massive step toward better coverage & care

For years, so many people with lipedema have been misdiagnosed, dismissed, or told "it's just weight gain." Having a dedicated ICD code validates what this community has known all along: lipedema is REAL, it's medical, and it deserves proper recognition.

This is more than just a code. It's visibility. It's validation. It's progress.

Have you been told you have fatty liver disease on top of lipedema? 💜⁣

If so, you're not alone.⁣
⁣
Many women with lipedema are also dealing with fatty liver disease, which can add another layer of frustration when you're already trying to manage swelling, pain, inflammation, and weight concerns.⁣
⁣
And then comes the advice... 🙄⁣
"Try a liver detox."⁣
"Do a cleanse."⁣
"Flush out the toxins."⁣
⁣
But here's the truth: your liver doesn't actually need a detox.⁣
⁣
Your liver is already designed to detoxify your body every single day. The real question is how we can support your liver's natural processes and address the underlying factors that may be contributing to fatty liver disease in the first place.⁣
⁣
One interesting pattern I see in my nutrition practice is that many women with lipedema have genetic variants that may impact phosphatidylcholine production. ⁣
⁣
Phosphatidylcholine is an important compound that helps package and transport fat out of the liver. When this process is less efficient, fat can accumulate in the liver over time. This doesn't mean fatty liver disease is inevitable, but it may help explain why some women struggle despite doing "all the right things."⁣
⁣
Supporting liver health often means focusing on the basics:⁣
⁣
✨ Adequate protein intake⁣
✨ Choline-rich foods like eggs, salmon, and lean meats⁣
✨ Plenty of fiber to support healthy bile flow and elimination⁣
✨ Blood sugar management⁣
✨ Regular movement and strength training⁣

There are many things I have learned about lipedema, nutrition, healthy lifestyle, and mindset through the years. ⁣⁣

My journey started back before I even knew I had lipedema, and gosh, so much of what I was feeling now makes perfect sense. 💡⁣⁣
