Lipedema fat is not “just weight gain”—and that changes how we approach fat loss.

In obesity: fat grows by creating new cells (hyperplasia).
In lipedema: existing fat cells enlarge (hypertrophy) and the tissue itself changes.

What’s happening beneath the surface:
• Fat cells enlarge over time
• Fibrotic collagen builds up
• Tissue becomes dense, firm, and nodular
• Lymphatic + blood flow are impaired

This is why lipedema tissue can feel painful and resistant to change.

💡 There’s deeper biology involved. Fat cells rely on proteins to regulate storage, communication, and remodeling. When these don’t function optimally—especially with hormonal shifts like estrogen—fat can expand in a more resistant way.

🔎 Research also points to immune + gut signaling (like LPS) contributing to low-grade inflammation.

🚨 Key distinction:
Obesity = more M1 macrophages (pro-inflammatory)
Lipedema = more M2 macrophages (remodeling + fibrosis)

Many people have both lipedema + obesity, which can lead to:
• Greater metabolic disruption
• Hormone signaling changes (leptin/adiponectin)
• Increased fibrosis

So fat loss isn’t just “eat less, move more.”

It’s about supporting your biology:
✔️ Improve insulin sensitivity
✔️ Reduce inflammation
✔️ Support lymphatic flow
✔️ Protect tissue + reduce fibrosis

If you enjoy having some fun drinks as the weather warms up, but want to keep inflammation under control, this mocktail is for you! It’s pretty, festive, and good for you, too! ⁣

Here’s why you’ll love it…⁣

🍒 Tart cherry juice may support sleep and muscle recovery⁣
🟡 Grapefruit brings a splash of vitamin C ⁣
🌿 Rosemary adds a fresh herbal note packed with antioxidants. ⁣
🧊 Top it off with sparkling water and serve over ice for a mocktail that’s light, bright, and totally satisfying, zero-proof!⁣
⁣
🍒 Now, here’s how to make it!⁣
⁣
Ingredients:⁣
1 cup fresh grapefruit juice (about 2 grapefruits)⁣
1/4 cup tart cherry juice⁣
1 tsp agave syrup (adjust to taste)⁣
2 sprigs fresh rosemary (plus more for garnish)⁣
1/2 cup sparkling water (chilled)⁣
Crushed ice⁣
6 fresh or frozen dark sweet cherries, pitted (optional garnish)⁣
⁣
Infuse the Base (optional for more depth)⁣
1️⃣ In a small saucepan, warm grapefruit juice, tart cherry juice, and honey/agave with 1 rosemary sprig over low heat for ~2–3 minutes. Do not boil; gently heat to release flavors.⁣
2️⃣ Remove from heat and let sit for 5–10 minutes. Discard rosemary and chill mixture if desired. Refrigerate until chilled⁣
⁣
Assemble the Drink:⁣
1️⃣ Fill two glasses with crushed ice.⁣
2️⃣ Divide the juice mixture evenly between the glasses.⁣
3️⃣ Top with 1/4 cup sparkling water per glass. Stir gently.⁣
4️⃣ Skewer 2-3 cherries per drink and add to the glass (or drop them in) for garnish. (optional)⁣
5️⃣ Add a rosemary sprig and an optional grapefruit twist for visual flair.⁣

What we all experienced tonight was more than just relaxation. ❤️
